Overview
Proper overnight storage of Dusty equipment helps prevent damage, maintains accuracy, and ensures the system is ready for use the next day. Operators should store all equipment in a dry, sheltered environment, within recommended temperature ranges, and ensure all batteries are powered and charging if they will be used the next day.
Recommended Storage Environment
Shelter & Moisture Protection
- Store equipment in a dry, covered, and sheltered location
- Protect all components from:
- Rain, snow, or standing water
- Excessive dust or debris
- Never leave equipment exposed overnight on the slab or outdoors
Temperature Requirements
Equipment Storage Range
- Recommended temperature: 50°F–95°F (10°C–35°C)
- Avoid prolonged exposure below or above this range. The robot can operate outside this range, but prolonged exposure when not operating can damage the batteries and equipment.
Ink Storage Range
- Ink cartridges: 50°F–95°F (10°C–35°C)
- Do not allow ink to freeze, especially the water-based inks.
- Avoid storing ink in hot environments where it may dry out or degrade
Extreme cold can thicken ink and damage components including batteries. Excessive heat can reduce ink life and impact electronics.
Common Storage Options
Option 1: Jobsite Trailer (Most Common)
- Store equipment in a locked jobsite trailer
- Preferred if the trailer has:
- Electricity for charging
- Climate control or moderate overnight temperatures
- This is the most common and recommended option
Option 2: Bringing Equipment Home
- Some operators choose to bring equipment home overnight
- This is less common but acceptable when:
- Jobsite storage is unavailable or unsafe
- Temperatures onsite fall outside recommended ranges
- Ensure safe transport and secure indoor storage
Battery Charging & Removal (Required)
Before leaving equipment overnight, ensure all batteries are powered, charging, or safely removed as applicable.
Batteries to Check
- Robot batteries (2 included)
- Remove the battery from the robot before placing it in the case
- This prevents damage if the robot were to power on while stored overnight
- iPad
- EcoFlow battery (if being used)
- Laser tracker battery (if using an AT500)
- Radio battery (if using an AT500)
Best Practices
- Plug batteries into power whenever available
- Confirm charging indicators are active
- Do not store batteries fully depleted
- Store removed batteries securely in their designated locations
- Route charging cables to avoid pinching or damage
Additional Best Practices
- Power down all equipment before storage
- Secure all components in their designated cases
- Keep ink cartridges sealed when not installed
- Perform a quick visual check in the morning before use
Summary Checklist
