Overview
Operators can print specific layers or linework using different ink colors (black, red, and blue) to improve clarity and coordination onsite. The robot automatically detects the installed ink color—no color assignment is required in the app. Any selected linework will be printed in the color of the installed cartridge.
Supported Water-Based Ink Colors
- Black ink
- Red ink
- Blue ink
- (If using FieldPrinter 1) White ink
The robot recognizes the ink color based on the cartridge installed.
How Color Printing Works
- The robot automatically detects whether color ink is installed
- Anything selected to print will be printed in the installed ink color
- No layer or linework color settings are required in the Dusty App
How to Print with a Specific Ink Color
- Decide which color you want to print (black, red or blue)
- Install the corresponding ink cartridge in the printer
- In the Dusty App on the iPad, select the layers or linework you want to print. You can verify the color ink in the FieldPrinter menu of the iPad application.
- Start printing. All selected content will print in the installed ink color
Switching Between Colors of Ink
- Pause printing before changing cartridges
- Remove the currently installed ink cartridge
- Install the new color cartridge
- Print a test line to ensure the ink is printing correctly
- Resume printing
Cartridge Configuration Notes
- The system includes one red and one blue cartridge by default
- Unless additional cartridges are purchased:
- Only one color cartridge is installed at a time
- The other cartridge slot should be left empty
- Always confirm the correct color is installed before printing
Best Practices
- Plan color usage in advance to minimize cartridge swaps
- Always run a test print after changing ink cartridges
- Clearly communicate what each color represents onsite (e.g., scope, revisions)
- Store unused cartridges according to manufacturer guidelines
