Overview
Dusty does not support custom fonts, text styling, or formatting from source CAD files. Any text imported into a layout will automatically be converted to a standard font used by the system.
This ensures text renders consistently across the Dusty Portal, the Dusty App, and the FieldPrinter.
Supported Font Behavior
When a layout file is imported:
- All fonts are automatically converted to a system font
- Bold, italic, and underline formatting are removed
- Custom or project fonts are not preserved
All text is rendered using Google Noto Sans, which is the standard font used by the Dusty system.
Noto Sans is a widely supported font designed for readability across many languages and environments.
Why Fonts Are Standardized
Standardizing fonts ensures:
- Consistent rendering across devices
- Reliable printing behavior on the FieldPrinter
- No missing-font errors when layouts move between systems
Using a single font also prevents unexpected spacing or scaling issues that can occur when CAD fonts vary between machines.
What Customers Should Do
When preparing files:
- Focus on clear text placement and size rather than font style
- Avoid relying on font styling such as bold or italics to convey meaning
- Use linework or labels to communicate design intent instead of formatting
Text will automatically convert during import, so no manual font preparation is required.
