Overview
This article explains how to troubleshoot common issues when the Dusty AutoCAD Plugin does not install correctly, fails to appear in AutoCAD, or shows errors during use. These steps cover the most frequent root causes and should be followed in order.
Common Symptoms
You may encounter one or more of the following:
- Plugin missing after install: The installer completes, but the Dusty tab does not appear in the AutoCAD ribbon.
- Installation or launch errors: Error messages appear during installation or when AutoCAD starts.
- Sign-in fails: The sign-in window opens and immediately closes or fails to authenticate.
- Missing commands: Dusty commands return unknown command errors.
- Stops working after updates: The plugin worked previously but stopped after a Windows or AutoCAD update.
Why This Happens
These issues are typically caused by one or more of the following:
- Unsupported AutoCAD version installed.
- Insufficient Windows permissions during installation.
- Windows or AutoCAD updates overwriting plugin files.
- Corrupted previous installation of the Dusty plugin.
- Network or security restrictions blocking authentication.
- Conflicting plugins that use shared authentication libraries, such as Procore, Revizto, or Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).
When multiple applications attempt to use the same authentication framework, login conflicts can prevent the Dusty plugin from completing sign-in.
How to Fix or Prevent Plugin Issues
Verify AutoCAD version compatibility
The Dusty AutoCAD Plugin supports:
- AutoCAD and AutoCAD Architecture versions 2019–2025
The plugin is not currently compatible with:
- Civil 3D
- AutoCAD LT
- AutoCAD MEP
- Other Autodesk products
If the AutoCAD version is not supported, the plugin will not load or appear, and reinstalling will not resolve the issue.
Before installing:
- Close AutoCAD completely.
Run the installer as administrator
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Complete the installation.
This ensures Windows does not block required file or registry access.
Restart AutoCAD and check for the Dusty tab
- Open AutoCAD after installation completes.
- Look for the Dusty tab in the ribbon.
If the tab is missing, continue to the next step.
Check network and security restrictions
- Verify firewall or security software is not blocking AutoCAD or the Dusty plugin.
- Confirm outbound network access is allowed.
If the sign-in window opens and immediately closes, this commonly indicates blocked network authentication.
Pause other plugins that use shared authentication
If other desktop or AutoCAD integrations are installed:
- Identify plugins such as Procore, Revizto, or Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).
These tools may use the same authentication libraries and interfere with Dusty sign-in.
To resolve this:
- Temporarily disable other plugins.
- Install and launch the Dusty AutoCAD Plugin.
- Confirm successful sign-in.
- Re-enable other plugins once Dusty is working.
Pausing conflicting plugins is the correct fix. Reinstalling AutoCAD or retrying login without disabling them will not resolve this issue.
After Windows or AutoCAD updates
Some Windows or AutoCAD updates remove or disable plugin components.
- Reinstall the Dusty AutoCAD Plugin after updates.
- Rebooting alone will not restore plugin functionality.
Reinstall the plugin
If the plugin previously worked or a partial installation is suspected:
- Close AutoCAD.
- Uninstall the Dusty AutoCAD Plugin from Windows Apps & Features.
- Restart the computer.
- Reinstall using Run as administrator.
This process clears corrupted or outdated plugin files.
