- Outdated or uncertified graphics card or driver
- The wrong graphics card is being used
- Hard drive issue
- Graphics/crashing issue with .NET Framework 4.8
- Older version of ProjectWise
- Missing or outdated version of Microsoft Visual C++

Solution
Hardware
- Check the system requirements for your installed AutoCAD version.
- Check hard drive health:
- OK - hard drive is healthy
- Pred Fail - Windows found an error; hard drive is unhealthy
- Update to the latest video driver from your graphics card manufacturer. See How to update to the latest certified video driver.
- If two or more graphics cards are enabled, see AutoCAD uses the wrong graphics card.
- Turn off hardware acceleration. See How to enable or disable hardware acceleration in AutoCAD.
- If using an Intel integrated graphics card only, change DirectX 12 to version 11. See How to use a previous DirectX version in AutoCAD.
Operating System
- Turn off the Windows Text Cursor feature.
- Uninstall and reinstall the .NET Framework. See How to remove and reinstall the Microsoft .NET Framework.
- Rebuild the Windows user profile. See Fix a corrupted user profile in Windows.
AutoCAD User Profile and Updates
- Install AutoCAD updates via Autodesk Access or Autodesk Account.
- Reset AutoCAD to defaults. See How to reset AutoCAD to defaults.
- Uninstall and reinstall AutoCAD. See Perform a Clean Uninstall.
Drawings
If the crash is drawing-specific, the DWG file may be corrupt. See How to repair corrupted AutoCAD files.
Performance
Adjust system variables in AutoCAD. See Improving AutoCAD performance with older or low-end graphics cards.
Proxies
- Start AutoCAD.
- Open a file (even a blank file).
- Close and restart AutoCAD.
- Open the drawing.
- If a proxy objects message appears, check the object types and missing software.
- If missing objects are related to an Autodesk object enabler, install the associated enabler. See How to download object enablers for AutoCAD.
