Overview
The Cut Line feature allows you to temporarily block the FieldPrinter from printing beyond a defined boundary. Cut lines are commonly used to control where printing occurs when parts of the slab are not ready, unsafe, or obstructed. Think of a cut line as a temporary, digital barrier that the robot will not cross during printing.
When to Use a Cut Line
Use a cut line when:
- A portion of the slab is obstructed or not yet ready (wet concrete, ongoing work, missing edge protection).
- Materials, embeds, or equipment are staged in one area and cannot be moved.
- You want to print one zone now and return later to complete the rest.
- You need a mini boundary to prevent accidental printing into an unfinished or restricted area.
Do not use cut lines to fix stationing, control, or accuracy issues.
How to Create a Cut Line
- Open the editing tools
- On the tablet, open the tool menu used for drawing or modifying layout elements.
- Select the Cut Line tool
- Choose Cut Line from the available tools.
- Draw the cut line boundary
- Draw a line across the area you want to block.
- The cut line should fully separate the printable area from the restricted area.
- Confirm the cut direction
- Ensure the cut is applied to the correct side of the line.
- The robot will only print on the allowed side of the cut line.
- Verify behavior on the canvas
- Confirm that layout geometry beyond the cut line is no longer eligible for printing.
How to Use a Cut Line During Printing
- Print the ready area as normal.
- The FieldPrinter will stop at the cut line and will not cross into the restricted zone.
- When the blocked area becomes ready, remove or adjust the cut line and resume printing.
Best Practices
- Use cut lines as temporary controls, not permanent edits.
- Place cut lines in simple, straight locations to avoid confusion.
- Remove cut lines once the area is ready to avoid accidentally skipping layout.
- Cut lines will not correct model or control errors.
Common Mistakes
- Using a cut line to hide incorrectly prepared layout.
- Drawing a cut line that does not fully block the intended area.
