Overview
Reference visibility allows an operator to view layout information on the tablet without printing it. This is useful for alignment checks, coordination, and visual context while ensuring only the intended layers are printed.
Symptoms / What You’ll See
- A layer appears on the tablet but does not print.
- The operator wants visual context without adding ink to the slab.
- Certain geometry is needed for alignment or verification only.
Why This Happens
- Layers set to Reference visibility are intentionally excluded from printing.
- Reference layers are commonly used for grids, backgrounds, existing conditions, or coordination elements.
How to Fix or Prevent
- Open the Layers panel
- On the tablet, tap the Layers icon to open the layer list.
- Select the target layer
- Find the layer you want to adjust.
- Tap the layer name to open its visibility options.
- Toggle the layer to Reference visibility
- Change the layer visibility from Print to Reference.
- The layer will remain visible on the tablet but will not be printed.
- Confirm visibility behavior
- Ensure the layer appears on the canvas.
- Verify that the layer is excluded from the print selection.
Best Practices
- Use Reference layers for context only, such as grids, existing walls, or coordination geometry.
- Avoid setting critical layout layers to Reference, as they will not print.
- Review layer visibility before printing to confirm only intended geometry is set to Print.
- Reference visibility will not fix missing geometry caused by file prep or publishing issues.
