Warm-Up
Let the tracker acclimate to indoor temperature before powering on. A cold tracker brought straight in from a vehicle can re-initialize its laser oven, which destabilizes measurements. If that happens, pause and let it re-stabilize before measuring.
| Tracker | First setup of the day | Subsequent setups |
|---|---|---|
| AT500 | ~2 minutes | ~2 minutes |
| AT930 | ~10–15 minutes | ~5 minutes |
Compatible Radios
Your tracker connects to the FieldPrinter through a radio, and the pairing is fixed — the radio ships with the tracker and Dusty confirms the combination before your equipment leaves.
| Tracker | Radio 1 | Radio 2 | Radio 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| AT500 | No | Yes | Yes |
| AT930 | Yes | No | Yes |
| AT930-NRT | No | Yes | Yes |
Radio 1 |
Radio 2 |
Radio 3 |
Two things depend on the radio:
- Floor Elevation works with all radios — so all three trackers can measure Floor Elevation.
- 2D stationing works only with Radio 2 and Radio 3.
Radio 2 and Radio 3 are powered by a Milwaukee M18 battery, so they need no separate power cable. Radio 1 uses a dedicated power cable.
For full radio specifications, see Radio Specs.
If You Have an AT930-NRT
Every AT930 specification in this article applies to the AT930-NRT as well. The tracker head is an AT930 — same dimensions, weight, power, temperature range, measuring range, accuracy, laser class, and warm-up.
NRT stands for No Real-Time, and the difference is in the controller, not the tracker head. An AT930 controller carries a real-time module: a unit that mounts on the back of the controller and provides two Ethernet ports. The AT930-NRT's controller does not have that module.
What this changes in practice is which radios the tracker works with:
| AT930 | AT930-NRT | |
|---|---|---|
| Real-time module on the controller | Yes | No |
| Radios | Radio 1 or Radio 3 | Radio 2 or Radio 3 |
| 2D stationing | Only on Radio 3 | On either radio |
To tell them apart, look at the back of the controller. Two Ethernet ports on a module mounted behind it means an AT930; no module means an AT930-NRT.
Instrument Dimensions
| Specification | AT500 | AT930 |
|---|---|---|
| Size |
261 mm × 238 mm × 477 mm |
258 mm × 238 mm × 477 mm |
| Sensor weight | 13.60 kg | 14.2 kg |
| GEB364 battery weight | 0.32 kg | Not applicable |
AT Controller Dimensions
| Specification | AT500 | AT930 |
|---|---|---|
| Separate controller | None — all-in-one instrument |
Yes |
| Size | Not applicable | 249 mm × 148 mm × 59 mm |
| Weight | Not applicable | Approximately 1.65 kg |
The AT500 has no external controller. This is the single biggest difference in what you carry onto a floor.
Electrical Power
The two instruments are powered differently, and the specifications below are published against different components — the AT500's against the instrument itself, the AT930's against the AC/DC adapter for its AT Controller. Read the rows accordingly.
| Specification | AT500 | AT930 |
|---|---|---|
| Power source |
Internal GEB364 batteries, or AC |
AC, or external battery units, through the AT Controller |
At the instrument
| Specification | AT500 | AT930 |
|---|---|---|
| Input voltage at connector for external power | 30 V – 48 V DC | Not published |
| Max. input DC current, overcurrent protection | 4 A | Not published |
AC/DC adapter
| Specification | AT500 | AT930 (adapter for the AT Controller) |
|---|---|---|
| Input voltage | 100 V – 240 V AC | 100 V – 240 V AC |
| Output voltage | 48 V DC | 48 V DC |
| Frequency | 50/60 Hz | 50/60 Hz |
| Power | 180 W | 180 W |
| Max. input AC current | 1.7 A at 115 V AC; 0.9 A at 230 V AC | 1.7 A at 115 V AC; 0.9 A at 230 V AC |
| Max. input AC current, overcurrent protection | Not published | 4 A |
Both instruments specify a 4 A overcurrent protection limit, but not for the same thing — on the AT500 it is DC current at the instrument connector, on the AT930 it is AC current at the adapter. They are not interchangeable figures.
Use only the Leica Geosystems power supply shipped with the instrument, or one Leica Geosystems has approved.
Internal Battery
| Specification | AT500 | AT930 |
|---|---|---|
| Internal battery | GEB364 | None |
| Type | Li-Ion | Not applicable |
| Nominal voltage | 10.8 V DC | Not applicable |
| Rated capacity | 6.9 Ah | Not applicable |
| Typical operating time | 5 h to 6 h per pair | Not applicable |
The AT500 takes two GEB364 batteries and requires both to be installed to run, so the 5 to 6 hour figure is the runtime of a pair, not of a single battery. See AT500: Both Batteries Must Be Installed to Work.
The AT930 has no internal battery, but it is not AC-only: its AT Controller accepts external battery units as an alternative to mains power.
Environmental Temperature
Two different numbers apply, and the difference matters. Leica rates the instrument; Dusty publishes a narrower window for the FieldPrinter system as a whole, which includes the ink and the tablet.
| Specification | AT500 | AT930 |
|---|---|---|
| Operating temperature, Leica instrument rating | −15 °C to +50 °C (5 °F to 122 °F) | 0 °C to +40 °C (32 °F to 104 °F) |
| Operating temperature, Dusty FieldPrinter system guidance | −15 °C to +43 °C (5 °F to 110 °F) | 0 °C to +43 °C (32 °F to 110 °F) |
| Storage temperature, Leica instrument rating | −25 °C to +70 °C (−13 °F to 158 °F) | −25 °C to +70 °C (−13 °F to 158 °F) |
| AT Controller, operating | Not applicable | 0 °C to +40 °C (32 °F to 104 °F) |
| AT Controller, storage | Not applicable | −25 °C to +70 °C (−13 °F to 158 °F) |
Work to the system guidance, not the instrument rating. The instrument rating tells you what the tracker alone survives; the system guidance is what keeps the whole FieldPrinter printing accurately. The AT930's instrument rating is the lower of the two and is the practical ceiling for that tracker.

Humidity
| Specification | AT500 | AT930 |
|---|---|---|
| Instrument | Max. 95%, non-condensing | Max. 95%, non-condensing |
| AT Controller | Not applicable | Max. 95%, non-condensing |
To avoid the effects of condensation, dry the instrument out periodically.
Elevation
| Specification | AT500 | AT930 |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum operating elevation | 5,500 m (18,000 ft) | 5,500 m (18,000 ft) |
| Maximum storage elevation | 12,000 m (39,500 ft) | 12,000 m (39,500 ft) |
Protection Against Water, Dust, and Sand
| Specification | AT500 | AT930 |
|---|---|---|
| Instrument | IP54 (IEC 60529) | IP54 (IEC 60529) |
| AT Controller | Not applicable | IP54 (IEC 60529), upright with the connector plugged in |
Do not use FieldPrinter equipment in the rain, including light rain. The system is not waterproof, and the trackers are not rated for water ingress. The IP54 figures are not a rain rating, and they do not make the equipment safe to operate or leave out in wet weather. If rain starts, stop work and get the equipment covered and indoors.
Sound Emission
| Specification | AT500 | AT930 |
|---|---|---|
| Noise level | < 70 dB (A) | Not published |
PowerLock
| Specification | AT500 | AT930 |
|---|---|---|
| Field of view | Approximately 10° horizontally and vertically | Approximately 10° horizontally and vertically |
| Operating range | 2 m to 60 m with a 1.5" RRR | 2 m to 60 m |
| Operating wavelength | 850 nm | 850 nm |
PowerLock is what re-acquires the reflector after a beam break. Its 60 m range is shorter than the tracker's measuring range, so a reflector can be within measuring range but outside the distance at which PowerLock will find it on its own. For how the system works rather than what it is rated to, see Laser Tracker PowerLock: Autonomous Target Acquisition.
Data Output
| Specification | AT500 | AT930 |
|---|---|---|
| Measurement data output rate | 100 points/s | 1,000 points/s |
Motorisation
| Specification | AT500 | AT930 |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum rotation speed | 180 °/s | 180 °/s |
| Acceleration, lateral | 675 °/s² | 1,350 °/s² |
| Acceleration, radial | 180 m/s² | 180 m/s² |
| Tracking speed, lateral | 145 °/s | 145 °/s |
| Tracking speed, radial | 6 m/s | 6 m/s |
Rotation and tracking speeds are effectively identical. The AT930 accelerates laterally about twice as fast.
Measurement Range
Angular measurement range
| Specification | AT500 | AT930 |
|---|---|---|
| Horizontal | Endless | Endless |
| Vertical, Face 1 | +75° / −55° | +75° / −55° |
| Vertical, Face 2 | +85° / −55° | +90° / −55° |
Distance measurement range
| Specification | AT500 | AT930 |
|---|---|---|
| Guaranteed range | 0.8 m to 80 m with a 1.5" RRR | 0 m to 60 m |
| Typical range | 0.8 m to 160 m with selected 1.5" reflectors | 0 m to 80 m |
| Minimum lock-on distance | Not published | 1.5 m |
Guaranteed and typical are not the same promise. The guaranteed range is what Leica specifies the instrument to; the typical range is what it usually achieves under good conditions with the right reflector. Plan work to the guaranteed figure.
Angular Measurement
| Specification | AT500 | AT930 |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution | 0.07 arc sec | 0.07 arc sec |
| Angular repeatability | ±7.5 μm + 3 μm/m | ±7.5 μm + 3 μm/m |
| Absolute angular performance, transverse (eT) | ±15 μm + 6 μm/m | ±15 μm + 6 μm/m |
Inclination Sensor
| Specification | AT500 | AT930 |
|---|---|---|
| Setting accuracy | ±1.0 arc sec (2s) | ±1.0 arc sec (2s) |
| Compensated measuring range for Orient to Gravity | ±227 arc sec | ±227 arc sec |
| Measuring range | ±616 arc sec | ±616 arc sec |
| Compensation method | Lengthwise and crosswise | Lengthwise and crosswise |
Orient to Gravity
| Specification | AT500 | AT930 |
|---|---|---|
| Orient to Gravity uncertainty, UZ(OTG) | ±15 μm + 8 μm/m | ±15 μm + 8 μm/m |
