Overview
The RB1 radio includes several screens that display different information and controls. One of these screens is used for leveling the tracker before stationing.
After leveling is complete, the operator must return the RB1 radio to the Radio screen before attempting to connect and record control points. If the radio remains on the leveling screen, the FieldPrinter system will not connect properly, which can prevent stationing.
This article explains why this happens and how to correct it.
What You May Notice
If the RB1 radio is left on the leveling screen:
- The robot will not connect to the tracker
- Control points cannot be recorded
- Stationing may appear unresponsive
- The operator may think the radio or robot is malfunctioning
In most cases, the system is functioning normally and only requires switching the radio screen.
Why This Happens
The RB1 radio uses separate interface screens for different tasks. The leveling screen is used only to adjust the tracker level.
While this screen is active, the radio is not operating in its normal communication mode. The system must be returned to the Radio screen so the tracker can communicate with the FieldPrinter during stationing.
How to Fix It
Before recording control points:
- Complete the tracker leveling process.
- Use the radio controls to navigate back to the "Radio" screen.
- Confirm the radio display shows the Radio communication screen.
- Proceed with stationing and recording control points.
Once the radio is back on the correct screen, normal communication should resume.
Best Practices
- Always return the RB1 to the Radio screen after leveling.
- Confirm the correct screen before beginning stationing.
- If the robot will not connect, check the radio screen before troubleshooting other components.

Internal Notes (Staff Only)
- Many "radio not connecting" reports are caused by the radio remaining on the leveling screen.
- Ask the operator which RB1 screen is visible before escalating.
- This issue is especially common with new operators during setup.
