Overview
This article explains how to publish a control point file in Dusty Portal so the control points are available on the iPad for stationing. If the file is uploaded but not published, the operator may not see the control points in the Dusty App.
Symptoms / What You’ll See in the Field
- Control points do not appear on iPad even though the CSV was uploaded
- Updated control points are missing after a file revision
- Operator cannot station because the correct control file is not available
- Old or duplicate control points still appear in the Dusty App
Why This Happens
- Control point CSV was uploaded but not published in Dusty Portal
- The wrong file version is selected in the print-ready file
- An outdated control layer is still included in the published file
- The CSV format is invalid or does not match the layout coordinate system
Before You Start
- Use a CSV file with point number, X/Y or Northing/Easting, Z, and description fields
- Make sure each point name is unique and not blank
- Confirm the control file matches the layout file in units and coordinate system
- Verify the control points are the correct revision before publishing
How to Publish a File for Control Points
- Open the project in Dusty Portal.
- Upload the control point CSV file to the correct project or floor.
- Confirm the file appears in the file list and opens in the layout view.
- Verify the control points display in the correct location.
- Check that the correct control point file is included in the print-ready Dusty file.
- Remove or uncheck any outdated control point file that should no longer be used.
- Save any file configuration changes if needed.
- Select the completed print-ready file.
- Click Publish.
- On the iPad, refresh or re-sync the file from Dusty Portal.
- Open the published file and confirm the control points appear in the Station tab and on the canvas.
How to Update an Existing Control Point File
- Upload the revised control point CSV to the same project.
- Check that the new file is the one included in the print-ready Dusty file.
- Remove the old control point file from the published set if it should no longer be used.
- Publish the file again.
- On the iPad, update or re-sync the project file.
- Confirm only the current control points appear before stationing.
Best Practices / Prevention
- Publish after every control revision so the iPad matches the latest file
- Remove outdated control layers to avoid duplicate CPs
- Keep point names simple and unique such as CP01, CP02, CP03
- Check control visually in Portal before publishing
- Do not assume upload equals publish because uploaded files are not ready on iPad until published
Troubleshooting
- No control points on iPad: Confirm the print-ready file was published, then refresh the file on the iPad.
- Duplicate control points: Remove the outdated control file from the published set and republish.
- Control points look wrong: Check CSV headers, units, coordinate system, and point locations.
- Updated points still do not appear: Log out and back into the Dusty App or remove the old project file from the iPad and sync again.
