Overview
This article explains how to adjust the thickness of selected printable lines in the Dusty App. Changing line thickness helps improve visibility in the field and ensures layout is clear for installation crews.
Symptoms / What You’ll See in the Field
- Lines too thin to see on rough or dusty surfaces
- Lines appear too bold and overlap nearby layout
- Text or symbols harder to read due to line weight
- Operator needs to adjust visibility for specific trades
Why This Happens
- Default line styles may not match site conditions
- Surface texture affects line visibility
- Different trades require different clarity levels
- File was exported with standard settings not optimized for field use
How to Change Line Thickness
- Open the project in the Dusty App.
- Navigate to the Layers tab.
- Locate the layer or objects you want to modify.
- Select the printable lines on the canvas using the select tool.
- Confirm the correct objects are highlighted.
- Open the line style or properties menu.
- Adjust the line thickness setting to the desired value.
- Apply the changes to the selected objects.
- Review the updated line appearance on the canvas.
- Run a small test print if needed to confirm visibility.
What Not to Do
- Do not increase thickness excessively as it can cause overlap or loss of detail
- Do not adjust without previewing changes on the canvas
- Do not rely on thickness alone for clarity—use proper line types and labels
Best Practices / Prevention
- Use thicker lines for key layout elements like walls or primary references
- Use thinner lines for secondary details to reduce clutter
- Test on actual surface conditions before full print
- Standardize line styles across teams for consistency
- Adjust based on lighting and surface conditions on the jobsite
