When your project wraps up or your contract is ending, you'll need to ship your FieldPrinter set back to us. This guide walks you through what to send back, how to pack it, and how to get it to FedEx so your return closes out cleanly and on time.
What You Need to Return
Your return shipment should include the full Dusty equipment set:
- FieldPrinter case
- Tripod bag
- Laser tracker case
Return each item in the same set of cases it arrived in, along with the accessories and cables packed inside them.
When to Return It
After your contract ends, you have a 5-day grace period to get the equipment shipped. If equipment isn't dropped off with FedEx inside that window, holdover fees may apply, because the set is considered still in use and unavailable for other customers.
To avoid holdover fees:
- Start the return before your contract end date
- Confirm you have every item in the set
- Pack the equipment securely
- Drop the shipment off with FedEx and keep your receipt
If you need more time, contact your Dusty point of contact as early as possible. We may be able to coordinate a return timeline or talk through a contract extension.
Step 1: Contact Your Dusty Point of Contact
To start your return, reach out to your Dusty point of contact. This may be your:
- Implementation Manager
- Account Manager
- Account Executive
- Dusty Support
When you reach out, please include:
- Company name
- Jobsite name
- Return address (where the equipment is shipping from)
- Reason for return (project complete, contract ending, replacement, etc.)
- Estimated ship date
Your contact will confirm the next steps and get your return set up on our end.
Step 2: Pack the Equipment Securely
Packing guidelines:
- Pack items, accessories, and cables securely inside the cases and bag.
- The tripod bag must be in its original shipping box.
Do not ship equipment in unprotected cardboard boxes unless Dusty tells you to.
Step 3: Apply the Prepaid Shipping Label
Once your return is set up, Dusty's shipping team will email you:
- Prepaid FedEx shipping labels — one per case and bag
- Any return documentation you need
Each label corresponds to a specific case/bag. Match every label to the correct one before you seal and ship — the label list will name the equipment each one goes to. Print the labels and attach each one securely to the outside of the matching case.
Tip: If a label looks like it's already been used, or you're missing a label for one of your cases, contact your Dusty point of contact before dropping anything off.
Step 4: Drop Off at FedEx
Take the packed and labeled cases to your nearest FedEx drop-off location. Ask for a drop-off receipt so you have tracking confirmation.
Unless your account team arranges otherwise, all Dusty equipment returns ship via FedEx.
If getting to a FedEx location is difficult, ask your Dusty point of contact whether a FedEx pickup can be arranged instead. Pickup isn't guaranteed and additional fees may apply.
Step 5: Return Confirmation
Once your shipment arrives, Dusty inspects the equipment and confirms the return is complete. Processing typically takes 3–5 business days after delivery.
A few things that keep confirmation smooth:
- Return equipment in good condition and free of excessive debris
- Missing or damaged items may delay processing
- Remember the 5-day grace period — returns shipped late may still incur holdover fees
