The FieldPrint Platform moves the coordinated VDC model from the design environment directly onto the jobsite floor. The FieldPrinter 2 (FP2) is the autonomous layout robot at the center of that platform: it prints the model at full 1:1 scale on the slab at 1/16" accuracy, run by a single operator. This document is the technical specification for FP2 and the surrounding platform components (Laser Tracker, Dusty Portal, Revit/AutoCAD plugins, Dusty iPad App, and the Floor Elevation capability).

Ink specifications
Specification
Value
Notes
Format
Inkjet cartridges (one per print head)
Automatic detection of ink type and color.
Cartridge yield
~15,000-18,000 linear feet of solid line at 1/16" line width
Volume per cartridge
~41 ml
Water-based colors
Black, red, blue
Ship in the standard kit. Best in warm conditions.
Solvent-based
Black
Shipping restrictions apply. Best in cold conditions and on slightly moist concrete; high permanence.
Permanence
Surface-, ink-, and UV-dependent
Standard water-based typically lasts 2+ months. Clear coat improves water-based permanence in high-traffic/UV areas. Always test on the specific surface.
Floor Elevation (Open Beta)
Floor Elevation extends FP2 into the Z-dimension, measuring floor height deviations using the same control points and Laser Tracker setup as layout printing - captured while the robot drives or prints. No additional hardware is required. It requires the tracker to be leveled to a stricter tolerance than standard printing (a levelness check is performed during stationing).
Specification
Value
Notes
Measurement accuracy
1/16"
Comparable to or better than dipstick or 3D-scanning methods, in a fraction of the time.
Elevation-map resolution
One average value per 4" x 4" grid area
Rendered as a color-coded heatmap (min/mid/max).
Point-elevation input
User-defined points from an uploaded CSV (function = "Measure")
e.g. door sills, equipment baseplates.
Outputs
Real-time iPad heatmap; Floor Elevation Report (PDF); Point Elevation Report (CSV with X/Y/Z)
Downloadable from Portal's Elevation tab.
Platform software
Dusty Portal (GA)
Web-based coordination and reporting hub. Accepts Dusty (.dusty), AutoCAD (.dwg), Revit (.rvt), and CSV point files; normalizes all inputs to one coordinate system; aggregates them into a single "Ready to Print" file. Provides layer control (visibility, role, line style, line width, text/point height, trade), a live print preview, and bidirectional production reporting by day, trade, and layer with cost attribution.
Revit & AutoCAD plugins
Prepare robot-ready layout files in the design environment and upload directly to Portal. Export to AutoCAD Dusty (.dusty) format. Both require a Dusty Portal account.
Plugin
