Overview
This article covers how to charge and operate your Leica Geosystems batteries correctly, including temperature guidelines, storage recommendations, and tips for maintaining battery capacity.
First-Time Use and Charging
Charge the battery before first use. Batteries are shipped with minimal charge for safety during transport. It is normal for the battery to become warm during charging.
Temperature range for charging
| Condition | Temperature Range |
|---|---|
| Permissible charging range | 0°C to +40°C (32°F to 104°F) |
| Optimal charging range | +10°C to +20°C (50°F to 68°F) |
Storage and Long-Term Care
If a battery is new or has been stored for more than three months, perform one full charge/discharge cycle before use.
For Li-Ion batteries, a single discharge and recharge cycle is sufficient to recalibrate the battery indicator. Perform this cycle when the capacity shown on the charger or device deviates noticeably from actual runtime.
Operating the Battery
Temperature range for use
| Condition | Temperature Range |
|---|---|
| Permissible operating range | -20°C to +55°C (-4°F to +131°F) |
Keep in mind:
- Cold temperatures reduce available capacity; the battery drains faster than normal.
- High temperatures reduce long-term battery lifespan.
For best results, avoid extended operation at temperature extremes when possible.
